Kine Aw

With Kiné Aw, colors are sometimes hot, sometimes somber, with an enveloping harmony that brings life to the signs, shapes and people in her paintings. Kiné's creations distinguish themselves by her pure work on the subjects. The symphony of colors and strong sensibility of the artist flows from the expressions in her paintings. Her unique signature is one that has begun to distinguish itself on the Senegalese landscape. Marie Francoise Aw is affectionately known as "Kine" by friends and is how she prefers to sign her works. She received her diploma from the National School for the Arts (ENA) where she had earned a spot in the universe of visual arts.

With a diploma from ENA obtained, Kiné Aw entered the world of artistic creation with one concern: to present the art of the Toucouleur in all of its colors. "My artistic expression," explains the painter "takes its source from the Toucouleur. I belong to that ethnic group, and I would not know how to be indifferent to the signs that identify it. This ethnic group is a part of those who, in Africa, always conserves its patrimony. True to her culture, and despite her worldliness, Kiné adds, "It is pride that pushes me to honor that ethnic group in my paintings as a means of expression that emanates from me."
